Ulbandus

Ulbandus is a Gothic word, meaning camel.

Elephantus is a Latin word, meaning elephant.

Did you know that philologists have determined that both of these words were developed together into the English elephant? But somewhere along the line the meanings got switched- ulbandus (camel, Gothic) + elephantus (elephant, Latin) became, elephant meaning elephant.

But there is no understanding of where the camel went.

Any suggestions?
